Tommaso Benciolini is a flutist, winner of the Respighi Prize in New York in 2017, who made his debut on the Carnegie Hall stage in New York in 2018 and is now the protagonist of an intense and passionate career.
His concert activity has led him to perform as a soloist at many of the most prestigious venues, including: Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Philharmonie in Berlin, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Seoul Arts Center in Korea, the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and many others.
He has appeared as a guest soloist with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Chamber Orchestra, the Berliner Symphoniker, the Nürnberger Symphoniker, the Münchener Kammerphilharmonie, the OSI Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the North Czech Philharmonic, the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, the Eurosinfonietta Wien, the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach, the Havana Chamber Orchestra, the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra, the Artisee Orchestra Seoul, and many others.
Tommaso has also devoted himself to numerous contemporary works, including the flute concerto “The Garden of Delights, a Flute Concerto after Bosch” by Andrea Battistoni, which he premiered in 2020 on the occasion of his debut in the Großer Saal of the Berlin Philharmonie.
In 2021, his debut CD was released on the SONY Classical label: a world-premiere monograph dedicated to Antonio Vivaldi, together with the chamber orchestra L’Appassionata, which he founded, and which was unanimously acclaimed by journalists, critics, and radio. His recordings have been broadcast by RAI, Swiss National Radio, Japan’s NHK, Radio Clásica, Radio Classica di Venezia, and many others.
In 2012, he became the youngest professor at the “E. F. Dall’Abaco” Conservatory of Music in Verona, and he currently teaches at the “F. A. Bonporti” Conservatory of Music in Trento.
He has also been invited to give masterclasses as a visiting teacher in Cuba (International Festival of Contemporary Music at the Instituto Superior de Arte), Finland (Tampere Music Academy and the Suomitaly Music Festival), Estonia (Tartu Eller Music Academy), and Malta (Malta Music University), as well as Dubai (Middle East Music Academy).
He is also very active as a researcher, having authored the first-ever recording of Mendelssohn’s Trio in D minor, Op. 49, in the composer’s own arrangement for flute, cello, and piano; he also rediscovered a trio for flute, cello, and piano by Nino Rota, giving its first modern-day performance at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 2015.
He has also brought to light several pieces by Antonio Vivaldi for flute, recording them for the first time, and has likewise edited several world premieres by the same composer for modern instruments.
Tommaso Benciolini was born in Bologna in 1991. He graduated at the age of 18 from the “E. F. Dall’Abaco” Conservatory in Verona, with top marks, honors, and a scholarship. He also studied at the École Normale de Musique “Alfred Cortot” in Paris, in the class of Pierre-Yves Artaud, and obtained a Master of Advanced Studies in Music Interpretation at the CSI in Lugano, under the guidance of Mario Caroli.
In 2025, Tommaso will tour the United Arab Emirates, the USA, South Korea, Turkey, India, Portugal, Switzerland, Hungary, Israel, and Cuba.
