Born in Belgrade, Serbia, Marija Mihajlovic began her violin studies at the Vladimir Djordjevic and Josip Slavenski music schools with professor Zoran Ilic. She graduated from the Faculty of Music in Belgrade with Professor Fern Raskovic and earned a Master of Arts degree from the same institution. She performed in Belgrade and in towns across Serbia with Russian pianist Natalija Mladenovic. She won several awards in competitions for young musicians in Solo and Chamber Music categories in Serbia, Montenegro and Italy. After moving to Brazil in 2008, she joined the violin section of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra for seven years. In 2009 she formed the Duo Mihajlovic / Bastos with pianist Miriam Bastos, having presented several recitals in Belo Horizonte, Patos de Minas, Brasília, Paquetá Island, Belgrade, Rome and Buenos Aires. In 2015, she completed another master’s degree in Musical Performance from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, under the guidance of Prof. doctor Edson Queiroz. Marija is currently a doctoral student at Universidade Nova/FCSH, a member of CESEM – Research Group for Contemporary Music, and collaborates with Orquestra Geração and with the Chamber Orchestra of Cascais and Oeiras.
She is a violin teacher at the Cascais Music Conservatory.
