Clarinet Masterclass


He graduated in Clarinet from the Lisbon School of Music, completed a Master’s degree in Musical Arts at NOVA University Lisbon and a PhD in Music and Musicology at the University of Évora.

His activity ranges from classical music to jazz, including fado, dance, theatre and cinema. He has participated in numerous recordings and collaborated with various national and international musicians. He has performed with orchestras such as Sinfonietta de Lisboa, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

He has developed an extensive activity with Musicamera Produções. He was a soloist with the Portuguese Navy Band and is currently a clarinetist with Dixie Gang, Swing na Mouche, Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble, and a member of the Setúbal Jazz Orchestra and the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz Orchestra.

He has served on juries for various competitions and is frequently invited to give masterclasses in clarinet, improvisation and musical creativity. He has taught in several conservatories and academies, including the Luiz Villas-Boas Jazz School (Hot Clube de Portugal), Universidade Lusíada and the Lisbon School of Music. He is currently a professor at the National Superior Academy of Orchestra.


About the Masterclass

The Cascais Clarinet Fest’26 is open to clarinet students of all levels, as well as amateur musicians, promoting technical and interpretative development, as well as musical exchange between participants.

Over the three days, participants will have access to:

• Individual and group lessons
• Technical sessions (breathing, reeds, repertoire)
• Clarinet ensemble work
• Final concert

Dates: July 7–9, 2026
Location: Cascais Music Conservatory and associated venues

Registration and information: Maximum 10 active participants
The application deadline is June 30, 2025.
Each active participant will have two 45-minute classes.
All interested students must send an e-mail with a current CV and repertoire to study with Prof. Vodenitcharov.
After receiving the approval, the participant must pay the fee to participate as an active participant. In case of withdrawal, the payment is not refunded.

As a member of one of the most famous piano competitions in the world, the “Queen Elizabeth” in Brussels, and professor at the Superior Conservatory, Prof. Boyan Vodenicharov will conduct a piano masterclass for the first time in Portugal. With his vast experience as a solo artist, composer and teacher, he will address all questions relating to interpretation and the resolution of technical problems, which is an essential part of the artistic development of each pianist. Simultaneously, being a born improviser, Prof. Boyan Vodenicharov will help connect the works of great piano composers and the art of improvisation, which is also an important factor in the creation of his works.
