BOYAN VODENITCHAROV
Born in 1960, he won third prize of the International “Busoni” Competition (1981) and third prize at the “Queen Elisabeth” Contest (1983), while still a student in the State Conservatory of Sofia, where he studied composition and piano; his piano teachers were students of Heinrich Neuhaus.
In 1986 and 1987, he receives the “Fulbright Grant” for a special study with Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore.
Since then he was regularly invited in almost all European countries, USA, Canada and Japan. He performed in prestigious concert halls such as the “Palais des Beaux-Arts” in Brussels, “Concertgebouw” in Amsterdam, “Palais de la Musique” in Strasbourg, “Smetana Hall” in Prague, “Suntory Hall” in Tokyo or the “Radio Hall” in Toronto.
For the last 30 years he has shown a lively interest in ancient instruments, on which he carried out numerous projects with musician such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Ryo Terakado, Piet Kuijken and recorded a number of CDs with music by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven (integral of the sonatas for violin and pianoforte) , Brahms, Debussy…
He is also active in the field of composition and improvisation, often in collaboration with jazz musicians, choreographers or filmmakers.
Presently he is a professor of piano, pianoforte and improvisation at the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Brussels. In 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2016 he was a member of the jury of the Queen Elisabeth Contest.

After receiving the approval, the participant must pay the fee to participate as an active participant. In case of withdrawal, the payment is not refunded.

As a member of one of the most famous piano competitions in the world, the “Queen Elizabeth” in Brussels, and professor at the Superior Conservatory, Prof. Boyan Vodenicharov will conduct a piano masterclass for the first time in Portugal. With his vast experience as a solo artist, composer and teacher, he will address all questions relating to interpretation and the resolution of technical problems, which is an essential part of the artistic development of each pianist. Simultaneously, being a born improviser, Prof. Boyan Vodenicharov will help connect the works of great piano composers and the art of improvisation, which is also an important factor in the creation of his works.
