João Balegas, born in Almada, was born in 1993 and started studying the oboe at the age of 14 at the National Conservatory Music School with Prof. Luis Marques. Two years later, at the same conservatory, he enrolled in the Professional Wind and Percussion Instrumentalist Course in the class of Prof. Salvador Parola. In 2019, he joined the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, in the class of Prof. Nelson Alves.
As a student, he participated in Masterclasses with Laura Marcos, Sally Dean, Christian Wetzel and Ramón Ortega Quero. He also participated in the 2011 and 2012 editions of the Youth Orchestra of the Official Conservatories of Music, under the direction of Eduardo Garcia-Barrios and Rodolfo Saglimbeni, in the 2012 internship at OCPzero, under the direction of Pedro Carneiro, and became an effective instrumentalist in the Orchestra Youth Symphony Orchestra between 2012 and 2015, under the direction of Christopher Bochmann.
He was a member of the Army Symphonic Band, between 2013 and 2014, and the Army Band – Descamento do Porto, between 2014 and 2019, where he performed solo in Oboé and English Corne.
João Balegas has been collaborating with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Porto Sinfonietta, the Ponta Delgada Sinfonietta, the Capdeville Ensemble and the Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra, being conducted by maestros such as Pedro Neves, Pedro Amaral, Rui Pinheiro , José Eduardo Gomes and Nikolay Lalov.
Currently, João Balegas attends the last year of the Degree in Orchestral Instrumentation at Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra, in the oboe class of Prof. Nelson Alves.
