Igor Ferreira Varela (b. 1997) has established himself as one of the most outstanding clarinetists of his generation, performing regularly in concerts, recitals, and recordings, both as a soloist and as a chamber and orchestral musician.
He has performed with the Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa, Filarmónica Portuguesa, Clássica do Centro, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and Orchestre des Pays de Savoie.
He is a founding member of the Quinteto de Sopros do Dão (Dão Wind Quintet) and takes part in a number of distinctive artistic projects, including the Philharmonic Show Orchestra, the Ensemble Sibila Bilíngue, and the João Martins Ensemble + Miguel Araújo.
A graduate of the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra and the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where he studied with Nuno Silva and Romain Guyot, he is currently a member of the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras and teaches clarinet and chamber music at the Escola de Música do Colégio Moderno and the Conservatório de Música de Cascais.
