Francisco Costa is a Portuguese pianist with an active career as a soloist, in chamber music, and in ensemble settings. He has been recognized in several competitions, most notably taking 1st place with the Dialecticae Piano Trio in the advanced level of the Chamber Music category at the Prémio Jovens Músicos 2021, and winning 1st prize ex-aequo, in level E, at the 2nd Cidade do Fundão International Festival in 2023.
His musical journey began at the age of 6, when he had his first contact with the piano under the guidance of Paula Castro Lopes. He later joined the Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional, where he studied first with Eduardo Regula and subsequently with Ana Valente, with whom he completed this stage of his training. He is currently finishing his master’s degree at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa under the guidance of Miguel Henriques — the same institution and teacher with whom he completed his bachelor’s degree. Throughout his training, he also deepened his interest in chamber music, with the support of Anna Tomasik and Paulo Pacheco.
Committed to continuing his development as a musician, he regularly takes part in masterclasses led by renowned pedagogues and performers, including Evan Rothstein, Jean Saulnier, John Rink, José Ramón Méndez, Milana Chernyavska, Mischa Maisky, Òscar Columina I Bosch, and Paulo Gaio Lima.
Throughout his career, he has performed both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles at prestigious venues, including the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Sala 2 at Casa da Música in Porto, the Auditorium of the Museu do Oriente, and the Vianna da Motta Auditorium, among others.
He has also had the opportunity to perform as a soloist under the baton of Alexandre Branco Weffort, with the Conservatório Nacional Symphony Orchestra, and José Eduardo Gomes, with the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa Symphony Orchestra, performing repertoire by Beethoven and Tchaikovsky, respectively.
He is also one of the founding members of the Dialecticae Piano Trio, a project to which he has dedicated consistent work over time.
