She began her studies of transverse flute at the Academia de Amadores de Música in Lisbon, having continued at the National Conservatory of Music, where she would finish the course in the class of Professor Carlos Franco.
She then entered the Lisbon Superior School of Music and, after completing her Bachelor’s degree in flute, obtained, in 1994, a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to study in Paris for three years, under the guidance of professors Pierre -Yves Artaud and Celine Nessi (soloist at Opéra Bastille).
Having won, in 1989, the First Prize and Honorable Mention Prize in the Alcobaça Music Competition, she began her professional activity, performing chamber music recitals commented by maestro José Atalaya, all over the country, working with musicians such such as António Rosado, Gabriela Canavilhas, Marcos Magalhães, Lucjan Luc and Carmen Cardeal, among others.
In 1992, she won the First Prize in the Competition for Young Soloists of Wind Instruments organized by the Orquestra Nova Filarmonia Portuguesa. Always within the scope of this competition, she records a CD and performs several solo concerts with an orchestra under the direction of maestro Álvaro Cassuto. She was also a soloist with other orchestras, namely with Orquestra Regie do Porto, Filarmonia das Beiras and Orquestra Clássica da Madeira.
In 1996 she also won the First Prize at the “Concours pour Jeunes Flutistes” in Paris.
In 2003, she graduated in Flute at the Superior School of Music in Lisbon, with the highest national classification of that year (19 out of 20). She is currently attending the Masters in Music Teaching course at the same school.
In the pedagogical scope, she taught at the “Conservatoire National R. de Melun” (France), Conservatory of Setúbal, Conservatory of Loures, Conservatory of Linda-a-Velha, Academia José Atalaya (Fafe), Professional School of Almada, School of Music “ Gualdim Pais” (Tomar) and Conservatory – School of Arts (Funchal), as a teacher of Transverse Flute and Ensemble Class.
As an orchestra musician, between 1997 and 1999, she was 1st flute soloist with Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras under the artistic direction of maestro Fernando Eldoro; 1st Flute soloist of the Orquestra Clássica da Madeira, under the artistic direction of maestro Rui Massena, between 2005 and 2012, the year in which she was invited to take the position of 1st Flute – Head of the woodwind section at Fundação Orquestra Estúdio, orchestra resident Guimarães 2012 – European Capital of Culture.
She is currently a teacher of flute and ensemble classes at the Orquestra Geração project and as a freelance flutist, Vera Morais is part of several chamber music projects.
She is a soloist flutist with the Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra and regularly works as a guest flutist for the following orchestras: Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orchestrutopica, Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orquestra Sinfónica Casa da Música (Porto), Orquesta de Extremadura (Spain) and Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguese (Sao Carlos).
